  5. Guatemala Guatemala comes from an ancient language and it was called “Place of Many Trees”…finding some shade in Guatemala shouldn’t be that hard. ;) La Ciudad de Guatemala

  6. El Salvador El Salvador just recently adopted the US dollar about 10 years ago. It was the colón before. San Salvador

  7. Honduras Hondurans are often referred to as CATRACHO or CATRACHA (for the ladies) and it comes from an old Honduran General’s name. Tegucigalpa

  8. Nicaragua Nicaragua has two famous lakes that are surrounded by RICH RICH SOIL due to volcanoes in the past. Managua

  9. Costa Rica Costa Rica means “Rich Coast” and so it is. It is full of animals, beaches, and the economy is much better compared to the surrounding countries. San José

  12. Venezuela Venezuela is known for “Beauty Pageants.” Having one of the best records of having the most women win Mrs. Universe in the world. The women are often known as exotic. You can guarantee Mrs. Venezuela win always make it into top 10! Caracas

  13. Colombia Colombia has always been known to have major drug problems. This involves having political diversity, political falls, economic problems, and more. Bogotá

  14. Ecuador Ecuador is located RIGHT ON the ecuator. Wonder if it’s hot there? ;) Quito

  15. (El) Perú Peru has ruins called “Machu Picchu” which are like ghost towns in the mountains. It’s almost like everyone just got up and walked away. Many people like to visit this place for sight-seeing. Lima

  16. Bolivia Bolivia use to be a part of Peru and was known as “Upper Peru” and was even run by Peruvian government. My how the countries change over the years. La Paz (Sucre)

  17. Paraguay Paraguay used to be ruled by a series of dictators who practiced isolationist and protectionist. Asunción

  18. Uruguay Uruguay is known for its high development and low levels of corruption. Montevideo

  19. Chile Chile has very cold weather and also warm weather as well. It’s very diverse with temperature. Santiago

  20. La Argentina Buenos Aires Argentina is known for the dance “Tango” It’s a very popular dance.

  22. Cuba Cuba is a communist country ran by a dictator. Since Fidel has stepped down, Cuba has lightened up a bit but not much. La Habana

  23. La República Dominicana The Dominican Republic shares an island with Haiti. Within 5 miles you can tell a different of what country you are in due to D.R being highly developed and Haiti being a poor country. Santo Domingo

  24. Puerto Rico Puerto Rico is ACTUALLY a part of the United States. They are not a state but a commonwealth and can freely travel back and forth without a passport. San Juan

  25. España España is considered a monarchy which means it has a king and a queen. España is the only Spanish speaking country in Europe. Madrid
