Background According to Congress, “Senior citizens are also our best front line defense against these losses.” In 1997, U.S. Administration on Aging established 12 grant-funded demonstration projects. Missouri SMP Project has been administered through Care Connection since 1997. There is a SMP Project in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands.
SMP Mission Empower and assist Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers to prevent, detect, and report health care fraud, errors, and abuse through outreach, counseling, and education.

SMP Message: Detect Compare your Medicare Summary Notice (MSN) to your health care activity and look for: • Charges for something you did not receive • Items billed twice • Services that were not ordered by your doctor
