Marijuana & Respiratory Function During Exercise • Acute effect: any smoke can interfere with oxygen binding to red blood cells • Acute: marijuana can disrupt coordination, balance, reaction time • Acute: increase heart rate and blood pressure • Acute: stored THC in fat could be released into bloodstream during exercise • Chronic: depends on how frequently one smokes, type of exercise
