This activity plan outlines the development and integration of monolithic suspensions for a detector. It includes tasks such as steel and fiber wire suspension, setup preparation, bonding and loss tests, resistance to shocks, dust pollution, and humidity. The plan also includes tasks related to assembly, integration, and transportation of the suspension prototypes, as well as safety and transport studies.

Monolithic suspension development Activity plan Piero Rapagnani Detector meeting 30-01-2008
1) Steel wire suspension • 2) Fibre wire suspension • (new C assembly procedure) • 3) Complete monolithic suspension Set-up preparation Delivery of fused silica parts Bonding tests Loss tests Complete monolithic suspension Resistance to shocks Resistance to dust pollution Resistance to humidity Silica Dust Containment Storage Transport Three Parallel Tasks
1) Steel_proto_assembly 200828/01 - 28/02 • New RM prototype (Aluminum, ready) • New MAR prototype (PVC arms, ~ready) • Dummy MI (Al, black, existing, side flats to be machined,~ready) • Wires 200 m (ready) • Spacers (Al, to be machined) • RM coils (~ready) • Mounting (non standard) Assembly check and integration of new marionette and new reaction mass.
2) Steel_proto_LC 200801/03 - 30/04 • LC setup (Control chain calibration, basic control tests). Remarks: - control-DAQ crate ~ready (ADC config, CCD to be tested !!!) - CD crate to be installed. Test of new marionette and new reaction meas.
3) Fiber_NewEarOld_preparation (Old design revised, delivered in Feb-08)200811/02 - 30/04 • Improved mounting tools (optimizing C-tool design). • Background activities: - fibre production - fibre tests and systematics - training for EGO support Remarks: - CO2 laser performance checked and realigned. - bending point measurement machine ready. Assembly feasibility technique preparation.
4) Fiber_NewEarOld_integration200801/05 - 31/05 • Unmount Proto_steel suspension. • Assembly Dummy Mirror, new_RM, new_MAR, fibres (using specific C-tool developed). • Leave 1 week in the assembly frame. • Integration and transport in the LC facility. Suspension prototype integration.
5) Fiber_NewEarOld_LC200801/06 - 31/07 • TF measurements • Control tests • Roboustness tests. Suspension prototype Local Control test. 1st Milestone
6) Fiber_NewEarNew_preparation(New design, meant to separate weldingfrom bonding, delivered in May-08)200801/02 - 31/8 • Improvement of the mounting tools. • Pieces delivery. • Bonding (silicate/water-glass) & losses tests. • Suspension parts assembly. • Background activities: - fibre production - fibre tests and systematics Assembly feasibility and technique preparation.
7) Fiber_NewEarNew_assembly_integration200801/09 - 31/10 • Suspension and roboustness using the assembly frame • 1Week (min) stand. • assembling using the payload prototype RM, MAR Suspension in the frame 2nd Milestone
8) Safety and Transport studies Mar/08 - Feb/09 Completion of the monolithic suspension facility, an open task: hard to delineate methods beyond “conservative and reasonable”. • Infrastructure design • Orders • Construction • Implementation… Call for other EGO/Virgo collaborators ????
9) Best_Fiber_XX_LC2008 01/11 - 31/12 • Decision about the destiny of prototype with OldEarNew suspension (if still there). • Integration of the NewEarNew suspension (if 2nd Milestone OK) in the LC facility. • TF measurements. • Control tests. • Roboustness tests. Integration of the best solution found in the LC facility 3rd Milestone
Further support ? • (from EGO) • more technical support from local workshop and trained for skilled works (e.g. welding) • + • infrastructure and safety • (already involved, but could be officially appointed) • + • operator for routinary production works once (fibres/quality/systematics) people
Present suspension critical parts • Fiber handling may induce damages on their surfaces • Silicate bonding is strongly stressed by the weldling • Welding the fiber on the lower clamp may induce cleaning problems
