  1. School Committeeman Wood Names Ortiz as Co-Campaign Manager Haverhill School Committee President Scott W. Wood Jr., candidate for re-election, named a co- campaign manager Wednesday, who will also serve as his director of field operations. Former Haverhill Democratic City Committee Ward 1 Chairman Gary Ortiz “brings with him extensive experience having worked on local, state and federal campaigns,” according to a statement by Scott Wood. Ortiz is a senior partner at TAXBRAINY Inc. and chief financial officer of Haverhill Taxi. “I’m excited to have Gary join our campaign, Gary is one of the best when it comes to running the ground game in a campaign and that’s where elections are won and lost,” Wood said. “I’m (excited) about what we have planned over the coming weeks, going door to door, meeting with PTO’s and our senior citizens.” Ortiz will join election veteran James Tarr, whom Wood announced as his campaign manager last June. At the time, Wood said he would run his “most aggressive” campaign. He said he has helped turn around the school district. “When I have called Scott Wood to address any issues I have identified with the schools, he is always there, always trying to improve the education we are able to deliver to our students.” Ortiz said.
