Purchase & Development of the Forest by Kilfinan Community Forest Company • 2005: Community consultation process begins • 2007: Start of scooping reports • 2008: First forest management & feasibility Studies • 2009: KCFC Set up • 2010: 127ha of Achacrossan Forest bought through the National Forest Land Scheme (NFLS) £130,000 raised via Highlands & Islands Enterprise (£65K), KCFC director interest free loan (£35K), community fund raising & donations (£25K) • 2010: First stage of Climate Challenge Fund funded infrastructure begins • 2011: Second stage of Climate Challenge funded infrastructure begins & new development officer recruited • 2012: Climate Challenge work completed & Phase 3 work to begin • 2015:Option for KCFC to buy remaining share of Achrasson Forest (325ha) from the Forestry Commission by 2015

Problems Along The Way • Issues with Getting the Forestry Commission to engage with us • Land in poor state (drainage, poor previous land management & lots of windthrow • SRDP (Rural Priorities) • Large amounts of time lost due to Employee sickness (Local Contractors are the way forward!) • Future Funding • Theft & vandalism • Argyll weather • Impatient community members (When is it all going to finished?) • Suspicion of the project and whether it is a good use of tax payers money
