Day and Dream,Drawings (1946) BY Max Beckmann
In 1946 Max Beckmann created prints for a portfolio at the dictation of the big apple dealer Curt Valentin; it absolutely was to be his last. Of the ninety photos within the portfolio, he painted some with watercolours. When considering dry point etchings, he opted instead for lithographs drawn on paper. The portfolio includes six photos. The fifteen sheets lack any overarching topic like “Annual Fair” within the portfolio of 1921 or “Big City” within the portfolios of 1919 and 1922. The title Day and Dream is consequently inconclusive, as was the preceding one: Time-Motion. The portfolio is so not as composed because the said and rather a lot of calls to mind the portfolio Gesichter [Faces], whereby Beckmann gathered severally created sheets.
