According to well-educated and successful business leader Jeff Whippo, the study of emotional intelligence has its roots in the work of Darwin, who believed that emotional expression is essential for survival. He says that the term "emotional intelligence" seems first to have appeared in a 1964 paper by Michael Beldoch. It was later mentioned in the 1966 paper by B. Leuner entitled emotional intelligence and emancipation which appeared in the psychotherapeutic journal. Jeff Whippo says that the first use of the term "emotional intelligence" has been credited to Wayne Payne's 1985 doctoral thesis. According to Jeff Whippo, Emotional Intelligence didnu2019t really gain prominence until 1995. It was in this year that Daniel Goleman, a psychologist and science journalist, authored the book u201cEmotional Intelligenceu201d and the subject gained prominence.
