g) Canadian participation • The Battle of Dieppe: • In August 1942, the Allies were about to enter the port of Dieppe in France to test the German forces
g) Canadian participation • Prepared for 3 years, 5000 Canadians participate • The Canadian attack at Dieppe was planned as a surprise attack, but Canadian troops were taken by the Germans stationed on clifftop
g) Canadian participation • The objective of the attack was to open a second front against the Germans • Opening a Western front, there would be less pressure on the Soviets who fought against the Germans on the eastern side
