Neuropsychological Testing Joseph Cicchino Colleen Clougherty Jorge De La Torre Raul Espinoza Jr.
Williams, Arthur (2001). Psychometric concerns in neuropsychological testing. Neuro Rehabilitation 16. • Attempts to describe measurement and norming problems that both exist and are common among neuropsychological tests • Shows the need for further development in neuropsychological testing.
Problems with Batteries • Few batteries to show the ability of the test to distinguish between two or more diagnostic groups of concern • Standardize flexible and fixed battery tests
Flexible Battery Problem • Scores on flexible battery tests differentiate • No group for comparison can exist • No bell shaped curve • Tests lack accuracy
Reliability • Minimum reliability is 0.80 • Many do not give reliability • Collecting new evidence is necessary
Problem Comparing Scores • Comparing scores to means and standard deviations of “normal samples” • Different scores from tests • No normative sample
Critical Review • Tests should be used with extreme caution • Further research is needed
