OBJECTIVE Develop the FireFront tool for assessing Situational Awareness and Situational Understanding in firefighters across a wide range of training scenarios and techniques
Situational Awareness (SA) Capacity of human brain to maintain an accurate understanding, or mental-model, of a situation when there are competing demands. Situational Understanding (SU) Reflects the ability of individuals to use information available to them, combined with their knowledge and experience to, “make sense” of the situation

Pilotstudy • Simple to administer – simple T/F probes. • Can be ‘designed in’ to a study, or added on to an existing scenario • Gives a wide range of useful measures that can be used to examine general theory (visual vs auditory) as well as individual profiles
