  1. A guide to MTMS’s newDestiny Library System The perfect library book is now just a click away!

  2. Our catalog is internet based and can be accessed from the Library-Media Center page on our school’s homepage or at:http://destiny.mendhamtwp.org/ Click on MTMS Media Center to enter the catalog.

  3. Students and Faculty are encouraged to sign in so they can utilize all of the patron features. **You can not place holds, create lists or access your records without signing in.** Once you have entered the catalog you may begin searching as a guest.

  4. MTMS students and teachers should use the username and password they have been assigned to log onto the school server.

  5. With the DESTINY system you can: • Searchfor materials by keyword, title, • author, topic, or series. • See what materials are available. • Place holds on books you would like to check out. • Ratethe books you have read.

  6. There are many ways to search the catalog. To see the top 10 books checked out this year click on the Top 10 button. Subject Series Title Author Keyword

  7. SEARCHING KEYWORD - type in a main word that you know is in the title, click KEYWORD example: “prisoner” for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban You will get a list of any materials that have “prisoner” in the title or subject TITLE - type in the title of the book (omit a starting “the” or “a”), click TITLE example: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban You will get a list of any materials with that exact title AUTHOR - type in the author’s last name, first name, click AUTHOR example: Rowling, J. K. You will get a list of all materials by that author TOPIC - type in the subject of your search, click TOPIC example: wizards You will get a list of all materials that have “wizards” in their topic records SERIES - type in the name of the series, click SERIES example: Harry Potter You will get a list of all materials in the Harry Potter series

SEARCH RESULTS • The screen will show all the results of your search • Notice the results tell you that there is “2 of 2 available” – that means we own 2 copies and they are both checked in. • For each title the location of the material and other limited information is listed. • To find more detailed information on the title you can click “details”

  9. The Title Details page lists all the information provided by the publisher for the title, including a summary, publisher information, reading level information when available, awards and additional information about the material. The Title Detail Page is also where patrons who have logged in can place books on hold by clicking the Hold It! button. From the Title Detail page, patrons can also access the Reviews page, by clicking on the Reviews tab. This is the section where patrons can rate the title from 0 to 5 stars.

  10. Clicking on the book cover will open the Title Peek program which will give you summary information and reviews from educational literary journals.

  11. Reviews section In the Reviews section patrons can rate books using the 5 star system by clicking on the Add Review button.

  12. Students and teachers are encouraged to rate books and Destiny will show the average rating for each title.

  13. Tips and Special Features To find out information on what books you have checked out and what holds you have placed click on the My Info tab. Do not use the “back” button; use the breadcrumbs to move back in a search. If you need help at anytime click on How do I… ? To add books to a list (like a shopping cart in Amazon or a Queue in Netflix) click the Add to this List button.

Begin your search here: Resource Lists allows teachers and librarians to create list of websites and books on particular topics. Create a list here. Top 10 showcases the top 10 books checked out in the past 6 months. New Arrivals showcases the latest additions to the collection.

  16. Drag and Drop a title into My List. Lists are saved into “My Info” section which saves resources in a personalized space, ready for check out now or in the future. Refine the search results by narrowing down the fields by author, subject, series and more. Destiny allows you to view up to 10 titles at a time. Each result shows the cover, title, author, location and availability.

  17. Mousing over a cover will provide you with additional information on a title. Clicking on the title will give you full details on the title, including summary, location, reading level, availability, reviews and more. A list of suggested titles of similar interest will also be displayed.

  18. Browse the shelf without budging an inch. Click on the scrolling carousel to see related titles to the left or right.
