  3. Body language • Known to be conservative • Personal space is about an arms length • DO NOT place feet on furniture • DO NOT fidget with hands • NEVER FIG (place your thumb in between • your index & middle finger while making a fist)

  4. Dining Manners • If someone offers/orders food, accept it • Keep both hands above table, not in lap • Do not any noises or sounds while eating • Take small bites of the food • Talk with an empty mouth • “Drinking” is acceptable • Pushing the limit of “drinking” is unacceptable

  5. Gift Giving • Always accept one’s gift • Bring bottle of wine or flowers to each occasion • Avoid lilies – usually reserved for funerals

  6. Clothing • Costa Ricans take pride in appearance • Business situations, both genders dress conservatively
