THE FACTS • In any given year 1 in 4 Ohioans will have a diagnosable mental illness. • 2 out of every 3 Ohioans are impacted by drug or alcohol • 4 Ohioans die due to unintentional drug/medication overdoses. • Ohio suicides have reached a 10 year high. • Murder-Suicides have tripled.
THE FACTS cont. • Foster Care - 75% parents with a substance abuse, 85% of the youth experience mental health challenges. • Inmates - Over 50% of all inmates at the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction have a substance abuse disorder, and 36% have a diagnosable mental illness. • Youth Incarcerated - 75% have a substance abuse disorder; 35% have a diagnosable mental illness. • 50% of students with a mental illness at age 14 do not graduate. • Homelessness - 60% have a severe and persistent mental illness, and 80% have lifetime alcohol or other drug abuse problems.
THE FACTS • Recovery rates for individuals that receive treatment and medication are: • Bipolar Disorder 80% • Panic Disorder 70-80% • Schizophrenia 60% • Major Depression 65-80% • Addiction 70% (with support)
Public Value of Boards • Fund and promote local support and/or levies for community care. • Monitor contract providers through program reviews and audits. • Evaluate cost effectiveness, continuity of care and quality.
