Contents • Environmental change & decrease of resources • What is nuclear power? • Where arenuclear power plants? • Why do we have to use nuclear power? • Disadvantages of nuclear power • Sources of power generation in Taiwan • Nuclear power plants in Taiwan • Nuclear waste storage field & protests on Orchid Island
Contents • Distribution of global nuclear power plant • Sources of power generation in France • Sources of power generation in United Kingdom • Sources of power generation in America • Sources of power generation in Sweden
1)Various pollutions caused for environmental change 2)The decreaseof resources→We need to develop green energy
What is nuclear power? 1)Use controlled nuclear reactions to get power, heat and electrical energy. 2)Nuclear energy in the reactor is converted into heat. 3)Heat turns water into steam to trigger the generator.
Nuclear plants are always near seasidesbecause of its need of water.
Why do we have to use it? 1) Because of global oil & colliery depletion, we need much cleaner energy. 2) It doesn’t releaseharmful gases 3) Greenhouse effect won’t be intensified.
Disadvantages 1)High cost of plant construction 2) Thermal pollution 3) Radioactive contamination 4) Problem of nuclear waste
1. The first nuclear plant was built in 19702. There are 3 plants in Taipei County and 1 in Hengchun, Pingtung County.
1. Government stored nuclear waste on Orchid Island2. Radiation leaks may occur.
Questions 1) Whatdo you think about nuclear power? Is it good or bad for us? 2) Arethere other environmental-friendly methods of generating electricity?
