  1. What do you think the cartoonist is trying to illustrate in this picture? What objects do you notice? Who are these people?

  2. Isolationism -stay out of foreign affairs- (69 and 72) -Washington’s advice-stay neutral-farewell address-don’t get involved in other nations affairs -had been policy of government since Washington-we have stayed out of other nations issues- this is the first time we start to branch out

  3. Imperialism -Policy of taking colonies for economic interests -other world powers were building empires -jingoism-aggressive nationalism (461) -U.S. also needed new markets for our products -spheres of influence-a region dominated and controlled by an outside power
