What Will You Do With Grace? Ephesians 2:1-10
The Definition of Grace • Grace is a state of kindness and favor towards someone • 1 Pt 2:3, Grace is defined as kindness • Eph 2:8, Grace is define as unmerited favor • Eph 2:9, Grace is defined as a gift • Grace is a gift of kindness we can not earn
The Gift of Jesus • God’s Gift of Grace Includes: • 2 Cor 5:21, Christ Becoming Sin • Heb 2:9, Christ Tasting Death • Heb 10:10, Sanctification through Christ • Heb 10:22, Cleansed Of Sin • Titus 3:5-7, The Hope of Eternal Life
The Holy Spirit • Additionally, God Extends Grace through the Holy Spirit • Heb10:29, Refers To the Spirit of Grace • Titus 3:5, Lists the Holy Spirit’s Part in Justification • Titus 2:11,12, Shows The Holy Spirit’s Instruction • Gal 1:6, Refers To Being Called By The Gospel • 2 Pt 2:21, The Holy Spirit Inspired Men To Speak • Acts 2:37-38, The Holy Spirit Convicts Men To Respond
What Will You Do With Grace? • Will You Reject God’s Grace? • Heb 10:29, We Can Refuse to Obey • Heb 12:15, We Can Fall Short
What Will You Do With Grace? • Will You Accept God’s Grace? • Eph 2:8,9… We Are Saved By Grace Through Faith • We can not earn salvation • Gal 3:10…Man can not live in a state of perpetual perfection • Man has never justified himself by works of merit • Justification comes from placing a our faith in God (Rom 4:4, 5) • God’s grace + our faith = salvation • What kind of Faith do we need to display?
What Kind Of Faith? • The Real Question is Faith Only or Obedient Faith • Does man have to literally engage in action to receive grace? • Those who believe in faith only say no • Those who believe in an obedient faith say yes • These contradicting views are due to a misunderstanding
A Big Misunderstanding • Lets Compare Eph2 with Col 2 • Eph2:1 and Col 2:13…He made us alive • Eph 2:6 and Col 2:12…He raised us up • Eph 2:8,9…Paul condemns Works of merit • Col 2:11,12…Paul endorses baptism
Faith In The Works of God • Baptism Is a work Of God (Col 2:11-12) • We Are saved by faith in the working of God (Col 2:11-12) • Therefore, We are Saved by Baptism (1Pt 3:21) The point is we are saved by God’s grace working through our faith in Him. When we are baptized we demonstrate that we have faith in his ability to remove the old man and raise us to walk in newness of life
Baptism Allows Access To Grace • Access To Christ’s Death (Rom 6:3) • Access To the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:5) • Access To Eternal Life (Titus 3:7) Without Obeying God through baptism, we can not gain access to the Gracious gifts of Christ’s death, the Holy Spirit, and Eternal Life
