Dyslexia Friendly Practice • HMIE - Literature Review, 20072.2.7 Promotion of Dyslexia Friendly Schools- Education for Learners with Dyslexia, 2008 • Dyslexia Scotwest - introduced the Dyslexia Friendly Schools Award (DFSA) in 2001 • CfE - ‘All teachers have responsibility for promoting language and literacy development’, 2006 • GIRFEC – child at the centre, 2008 • Assessing/Addressing Dyslexia Toolkit – 2010 • GCC Dyslexia Working Together Guidelines - 2011 Paradigm shift from dyslexia as disability to dyslexia as learning difference

  3. Scoping Glasgow 2012-13 • Fact finding visits and sharing of DFP with LEAs • Examining DFP in targeted primary establishmentsin Glasgow • Analysis of collated service provision feedback

  4. Findings • Established practice in LEAs. Model varies. • Within Glasgow, organisation and approach in primaries varied considerably. • Feedback on GDSS support very positive. Requests for more generic, practical strategies in addition to in-depth training

  5. A systemic approach across educational establishments is required to ensure quality and consistency of support Universal and targeted support delivered in tandem Conclusions

  6. Response • 3 primary and 3 secondary establishments identified to help develop and pilot draft materials • Parents and learners involved in developing information leaflets and materials
