Lauren GlaseArtifact 8 – 5 Artifact 8 – 5Graduate Studies Slideshow • This artifact was developed during my work as a graduate assistant for the Office of Graduate Studies in the Fall 2009 semester for Debora Haring, our recruitment coordinator. • Debora hosted a Webinar that aired around FGCU and the local area featuring graduate studies. My role in this was to create this PowerPoint presentation that she would follow throughout the webinar and the prospective students would follow along with her. I also researched statistics and wrote up our admission requirements for the presentation. • This presentation addresses Standard 2: Instructional Leadership & Standard 7: Technology from the Florida Educational Leadership Standards and the performance substandards that apply. • I learned how rare it is to have graduated with your master’s degree and how much of an advantage it really gives you. These statistics can help us in our recruiting of students. It is important to reach out and use different outlets to recruit. New technology is a great way to reach out to the new generations considering graduate school.

THE APPLICATION PROCESS • Fill out the Online or Printable Graduate Application.* • Submit two official transcripts from each college/university attended.* Transcripts must be in the original sealed envelope from the institution to be considered official. • Sit for the GRE, MAT, or GMAT (according to program requirements) and request scores to be sent to FGCU. • Complete all supplemental requirements of the program. • Submit application materials and a $30 application fee* to: Florida Gulf Coast University Office of Graduate Studies 10501 FGCU Blvd. S. Ft. Myers, FL 33965 *Previous and current students of FGCU should not fill out an online application – please only submit a printable application. They are also not required to submit a new immunization record, transcripts (unless not already on file), or the application fee. TESTING INFORMATION • Graduate Record Exam (GRE) The GRE General Test measures verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, and analytical writing skills that are not related to any specific field of study. For complete information on the GRE, please visit www.gre.org. FGCU’s school code for the GRE is 5300. • Miller Analogies Test (MAT) The MAT is a high-level mental ability test requiring the solution of problems stated as analogies. It consists of 120 analogies and is 60 minutes in length. For complete information on the MAT, please visit www.milleranalogies.com. FGCU’s school code for the MAT is 1265. FGCU offers this exam on campus. COLLEGE OF ARTS & SCIENCES MS Environmental Science -Prepares students for careers as environmental professionals or for further study in a Ph.D. program. The core of the program focuses on understanding the science of ecology, utilizing the scientific method, and applying the concept of sustainability. MA English -Provides students with graduate education in the study of literature and culture as well as expository and creative writing. -Career opportunities include teacher, adjunct professor , instructor at a community college, and any job that requires excellent written and verbal skills. MA History --Aims to advance students’ skills in historical research and related work, and to enable them to develop a sophisticated and complex understanding of a range of historical events, issues and debates within a global context. -Career opportunities include teacher, adjunct professor , and instructor at a community college.
COLLEGE OF BUSINESS MBA -This program has an online option. Provides students with a challenging curriculum and preparation for leadership in careers across all types of business and public organizations. It emphasizes the application of analytical, technical, and behavioral tools to solve organizational problems. MS Accounting & Taxation -Focuses on advanced technical competence in accounting and/or taxation, the effective use of technology in research and practice, effective communications with colleagues, clients and other stakeholders of diverse backgrounds, ethical responsibilities, and the development of life-long learning skills to maintain professional competence. MS Computer Information Systems -Prepares graduates for leadership positions in which they can move beyond managing a business to improving it through information technology. It emphasizes the management of computer systems integration and technologies, and their strategic use.
COLLEGE OF EDUCATION MA Counseling: Mental Health Counseling MA/MEd Counseling: School Counseling --Students take common coursework in human development, legal and ethical issues of the profession, career development, appraisal methods, counseling theories, group work, practicum and research and program evaluation. -Career opportunities for Mental Health include mental health counselor, mental health program leader, employee assistance professional, substance abuse counselor, state child protection worker, grief counselor, residential treatment counselor, career counselor, and private practitioner. -Career opportunities for School Counseling include schools guidance and counseling, district leader of guidance and counseling, program leader for after school enrichment.. MEd Curriculum & Instruction -Provides advanced study in education and is designed to improve the competency of teachers, to serve the career needs and goals of individuals in education related fields, to encourage research in a student’s area of concentration, and to initiate and implement programs involving the schools and the community. -Career opportunities include teacher, curriculum specialist at the State Department of Education, District or Building level, and undergraduate college faculty. Educational Specialist (EdS) in Education -A post-master’s program in education which emphasizes the growth of educational professionals as they focus on organizational management, organizational effectiveness, and the development, implementation, and evaluation of curricula. -Career opportunities include district superintendent, district curriculum specialist, undergraduate and graduate faculty, various roles in State Departments of Education, teacher, principal, human resource director.

MEd Reading -Provides opportunities for advanced study with specialization in theoretical approaches to reading instruction, application of theory to practice, and use of specific materials and methods of reading instruction based on current research studies. -Career opportunities include teacher, reading specialist at the building, district or State Department of Education levels, undergraduate faculty. MEd Special Education -Emphasizes consultative, supervisory, and multidisciplinary skills intended for students who wish to assume innovate leadership roles in public or privates schools and community settings. -Career opportunities include teacher, resource specialist, special educator, undergraduate faculty, special education curriculum specialist at building, district or State Department of Education levels, consultation educator.
COLLEGE OF HEALTH PROFESSIONSSCHOOL OF HEALTH & REHABILITATION MS Health Science -This program is offered completely online. Graduates are prepared to serve as health care leaders in advanced professional roles within the diverse current and dynamic health services delivery system. MS Occupational Therapy -Learn how to use activities and tasks associated with a client’s valued occupation (those pursuits in life that are most meaningful) as the method for achieving therapeutic goals, which themselves are framed according to the client’s desired occupation. -After graduation, students are ready to sit for the NBCOT exam. This exam is required to become a registered, licensed and practicing occupational therapist. Doctor of Physical Therapy -Prepares graduates as ethical and effective decision-making practitioners, valuing their role in the changing health care environment and society at large. Physical therapy is a dynamic profession with an established theoretical and scientific base and widespread clinical applications in the restoration, maintenance, and promotion of optimal physical function.
COLLEGE OF HEALTH PROFESSIONSSCHOOL OF NURSING MSN Nursing -Prepares advanced practice nurses for career opportunities in a variety of evolving global health care environments. Extensive practice experience enable student initiated opportunities that promote development of diverse knowledge, values, and competencies essential for advanced practice. MSN – Acute Care Nurse Practitioner -Emphasizes a strong clinical base grounded in the basic sciences that prepares graduate nurses to manage the health care of acutely ill patients at an advanced practice level. MSN – Nurse Anesthesia -Prepares students to assume the full scope of nurse anesthesia practice. Graduates perform complete preoperative assessments, administer and manage all aspects of anesthesia in multiple settings, direct postoperative care, manage complications, and participate in perianesthesia and support functions. -Graduates of this program can look forward to careers as Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists.
COLLEGE OF PROFESSIONAL STUDIES MS Criminal Forensic Studies -This program builds upon the B.S. in Criminal Forensic Studies degree and is an interdisciplinary program, focused on making graduates highly competitive in the marketplace. -Career opportunities include adult and juvenile probation and parole officers, detention and prison case managers and deputy wardens, drug and mental health court administrators and case managers, law enforcement behavioral analyst and detectives, child welfare and children’s protective services or domestic violence case managers and administrators, criminal and counter terrorism intelligence. MS Criminal Justice MS Criminal Justice – Compliance -Designed to assist professionals in assuming program and administrative responsibility in the design and management of an effective, efficient, and responsive criminal justice system. -Career opportunities include supervisory/administrative positions in Law Enforcement, Corrections, Juvenile Justice, Private Security, etc. Police Chief, Prison Warden, Director of Juvenile Justice Program, or Director of a Private Security Firm.
COLLEGE OF PROFESSIONAL STUDIES Master of Public Administration -An interdisciplinary, professional degree that prepares students for administrative positions in the public and not-for-profit sectors. Master of Social Work -Prepares graduates with a solid liberal arts foundation, with generalist underpinnings, and specialized clinical intervention skills to work with individuals, families, groups, and communities.

COLLEGE OF ARTS & SCIENCES MS Environmental Science Must have min. 3.0 GPA in upper-division coursework (last 60 hours of bachelor’s degree), a combined score of 1000 on GRE with min. of 400 on verbal and quantitative sections, two letters of recommendation, cover letter of introduction, statement of research goals, general ecology course, statistics course. MA English Must have min. 3.0 GPA or a combined score of 1000 on GRE, names and contact information of 2 college or university faculty members who will serve as references, statement of personal goals, writing sample of 8-10 pages. MA History Must have min. 3.0 GPA (with at least 15 credits in History and 3.0 in all History courses), combined score of 1000 on GRE with min. of 500 on verbal section, two letters of recommendation from past professors or mentors, personal statement of interest in pursing history graduate degree (2-3 pages).
COLLEGE OF BUSINESS MBA Concentrations in Finance, General Management, Interdisciplinary, Information Systems, and Marketing MS Accounting & Taxation MS Computer Information Systems Must have minimum 3.0 GPA in upper division coursework (last 60 credit hours of bachelor’s degree) or a score of 500 or better on the GMAT. Must submit GMAT. Admission is determined by the following formula: (GMAT score) + (GPA for last 60 hours attempted at upper-division level X 200) must equal or exceed 1050. Min. GMAT score is 400. Some prerequisite coursework may be required.

COLLEGE OF HEALTH PROFESSIONSSCHOOL OF HEALTH & REHABILITATION MS Health Science Concentrations in Health Professions Education, Health Services Administration Applicants must meet one of the following: • (GPA last 60 hours x 200) + (GRE quantitative + verbal) must equal or exceed 1600 • (GPA last 60 hours x 200) + MAT = 1000 • (GPA last 60 hours x 200) + GMAT = 1100 • Regionally Accredited Graduate Degree Must also submit a supplemental application & portfolio. MS Occupational Therapy Must have min. 3.0 GPA, a combined score of 1000 on GRE, and 10 hours of volunteer work in OT practice. Doctor of Physical Therapy Must have min. 3.0 GPA in all upper division coursework (last 60 credit hours of bachelor’s degree), min. combined score of 1000 on quantitative & verbal sections of GRE and a minimum score of 4.0 on analytical section, portfolio, including validation of two physical therapist shadowing experiences of 5 hours each.
COLLEGE OF HEALTH PROFESSIONSSCHOOL OF NURSING MSN Nursing Concentrations in Clinical Nurse Leader and Nurse Educator MSN – Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner 3.0 GPA, GRE or MAT with scores of 1000 on verbal and quantitative on GRE or 400 on MAT, college-level statistics course, health assessment course with eligibility for Florida RN licensure, resume, statement of career goals, and preferred one year experience as a registered nurse. MSN – Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Current and unrestricted registered nurse with eligibility for Florida RN licensure, BSN, or BS degree in related science, 3.0 GPA, 1000 on verbal and quantitative on GRE (analytical scores must be reported), or 400 on MAT, college-level statistics course, health assessment course with a “C” or better, resume, statement of career goals, three references, and a minimum of one year of experience as a registered nurse in an acute care setting. MSN – Nurse Anesthesia Current and unrestricted registered nurse with eligibility for Florida RN licensure, BSN, or BS degree in a related science, 3.0 GPA, 1000 on verbal and quantitative on GRE (analytical scores must be reported), resume, statement of career goals, three letters of recommendation, college-level statistics course, two chemistry courses with lab component in at least one, and minimum one year practice experience as a registered nurse in an acute care setting.
COLLEGE OF PROFESSIONAL STUDIES MS Criminal Forensic Studies Must have at least a 3.25 GPA and the GRE with a min. combined score of 1100 on verbal and quantitative sections. Must submit GRE, supplemental application, three reference rating forms or letters of recommendation, and a statement of career goals. Prerequisite coursework is also required. MS Criminal Justice MS Criminal Justice – Compliance Must have min. 3.0 GPA and a score of 900 or more on GRE. Must submit GRE, three completed reference rating forms or letters of recommendation, and a personal aspiration statement (300-500 words).
COLLEGE OF PROFESSIONAL STUDIES Master of Public Administration Must submit GRE or MAT, supplemental application, statement of career goals, and three reference rating forms or letters of recommendation. Prerequisite coursework is required. GPA and test scores are evaluated according to the following formula: (GRE quantitative + verbal score) + (GPA for last 60 semester hours of upper-division undergraduate level work X 200) must equal or exceed 1600; or (MAT percentile rank for intended major) + (GPA for last 60 semester hours of upper-division undergraduate level work X 18) must equal or exceed 100. Master of Social Work Must have min. of 3.0 GPA in last 60 credit hours of bachelor’s degree, submit GRE or MAT scores, supplemental application, personal statement, and three letters of recommendation. Prerequisite coursework is required.
