  2. Vergil’s Life Born in Mantua 70 BCE In 41 Vergil may have lost his family farm in the confiscations of 41 after the Battle of Philippi. Some time after the publication of of the Eclogues V. joins the circle of Maecenas Vergil died in 19 BCE before finishing the Aeneid.

  3. Vergil’s Works Eclogues (Bucolics) – collection of 10 poem in hexamters 42-39 BCE Modelled on Theocritus’ Idylls Georgics – 4 books of hexameter didactic poems. Modelled on Callimachus’ Aitiaand Aratus’ Phaenomena Aeneid – 12 book epic poem Modelled on Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey and Apollonius’ Argonautica Works spuriously attributed to him in the Appendix Vergiliana, but only one might actually have been written by him. Catalepton the name and style shows influence from Callimachus.
