  2. Goal! • Given 2 or more functions, combine them to find values of their compositions.

  3. Example 1 Find f(x-3) • Answer:

  4. Example 2 Find f(g(x)). Plug g(x) into f(x) for x.

  5. Same equations… Find f(g(3)) find the value inside of the parenthesis, then outside. So first g(3). Then plug that number into f(x). g(3)=8 f(g(3)=

  6. f(g(x)) • We say it “f of g of x”

  7. Except in some rare cases

  8. Example Find h(g(4)) First find g(4) Then plug that into h.

  9. You try! Find g(h(0)) Answer: 1

  10. You try again! • Find g(f(10)) • Answer: 11

  11. Example: remember FOIL? • Find f(g(x))
