  5. This is the Law The OBC sets standards that are required to be followed in Ontario for the construction, demolition and renovation of buildings. The code does however give the right to make adjustments for municipalities to modify requirements to be specific for there specific area. Read page 1 to 3 and perform exercise #1 (do not do Q1)
  6. Permit Applications Permit application requirements will vary for different locations in the province. Basic requirements are: drawings builder / trade registration fees Read page 4 to 6 and perform exercise #2 (see handout for Q1)
  7. Organization of the Code The code classifies buildings by size building area building height (see definition for storey and first storey) type of occupancy (see definition for occupancy)

Organization of the Code Using the Code index has limited information to direct you to specific part of the code if you can’t find it in the index go to: go to preface page iii (structure of the objective-based code) go to the front of each tab for more specifics as to the contents of each Part Read page 7 to 12 and perform exercise #3 ( do not do Q 4)
  10. Drawings for the Building Permit Usually the standard drawings that are required to successfully erect a building are: grading plan site plan floor plans elevations structural plans / sections / details Read page 13 to 20 and perform exercise #4
