A. Definition. Sin is anything contrary to the character and nature of God, or acting independently of God and His provision. Sin is coming short of God's righteousness. Rom 3:23
1. Inherent Sin, Rom 5:12. When Adam sinned he acquired an Old Sin Nature (OSN). Man inherits the OSN through the father’s chromosomes, Psa 51:5.
2. Imputed Sin. When Adam sinned, the entire human race was counted guilty, 1 Cor 15:22. At physical birth God imputes Adam’s original sin into your OSN.
3. Personal Sinis a manifestation and result of having an OSN.1 John 1:8‑10
Two Kinds of Personal Sin: a) Known sins, b) Unknown sins or sins we commit in ignorance.
1. Inherent sin. Jesus Christ died with reference to everyone's OSN, Rom 6:10.
1. Inherent sin. Jesus Christ died with reference to everyone's OSN, Rom 6:10. As a result we are legally divorced from our OSN and joined anew to Jesus Christ, Rom 7:1-6.
He made provision to handle sins from the OSN, 1 John 1:7. He also rejected human good which comes from the OSN, Eph 2:8‑9; Rom 4:4; 8:8; Heb 9:17; Isa 64:6.
2. Imputed sin. In Adam we are counted guilty, (1 Cor 15:22a; Rom 3:23), while in Christ we are counted not guilty, (1 Cor 15:22b; 2 Cor 5:21; Eph 2:1, 5‑6).
3. Personal sin. Jesus Christ bore the sins of everyone so that the unbeliever could be positionally cleansed from all sins, (John 13:9-10; 15:3; Eph 5:26; Titus 2:14; Heb 10:10), ….
… and the believer could be experientially cleansed from post salvation sinning.Psa 32:5; Prov 28:13; 1 John 1:9; 2:2.
4. The penalty of sin, spiritual death, Mat 27:46, is replaced by the provision of spiritual life for anyone who believes in Christ, Rom 6:22-23.
1. Unbeliever: the issue is rejection of Christ as savior, John 3:18, 36, the basis of their condemnation at the last judgment, Rev 20:11-15.
2. Believer: the issue is the utilization of the rebound technique, 1 John 1:9.
God is not the author of sin or temptation, James 1:13‑15, it originated with Satan through negative volition, Isa 14:12-14; Ezk 28:15-19.
