  2. Pediatricians • Pediatricians are doctors who care for children from birth to early adulthood. • They focus on the development, care, and disease of infants, children, and adolescents. • Patients range from birth to 18; some states it’s 17.

Working Conditions • Working conditions are usually pleasant with the work environment being indoors well lighted exam rooms. • Hours of work frequently exceed 60 hours a week in the busier practices. • This typically can result in being awakened at all times of the night and/or being asked to come in at irregular times to evaluate a patient.

  4. Salary • Salary varies depending on location and the setting. • 4 hours per week,2080 hours per year • The average pediatrician salary is $69.81 per hour. The lowest 10% earn $32.42 per hour and those in the upper earn more than $80.00 per hour.

  6. Becoming a Pediatrician • As a pediatrician you have the option of practicing general medicine or specializing in pediatrics. • Becoming a pediatrician is no easy task; many years of schooling is required. • In high school, you should focus mainly on science and math courses to help you prepare for college.

Training • Pediatricians follow the same medical training as other doctors. • Many complete bachelor’s degrees and then go on to pursue medical degrees from an accredited medical school. • Individuals interested in pursuing a 4-year M.D. degree program should verify its accrediation with the national accrediting agency.
