  3. Martin Luther King Jr. • Martin Luther King, Jr.(January 15, 1929 – April 4, 1968) • An Americanclergyman, activist, and leader in theAfrican-American Civil Rights Movement • He is best known for his role in the advancement ofcivil rightsusing nonviolentcivil disobedience

He led the 1955Montgomery Bus Boycott • King also helped to organize the 1963March on Washington, where he delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech • On October 14, 1964, King received theNobel Peace Prizefor combating racial inequality throughnonviolence • King wasassassinated on April 4, 1968, inMemphis, Tennessee

TheAmerican Civil War fought from 1861 to 1865 between the northern states and the southern states. • The main issue of the war was around slavery. • The northern states won. • 100 year later black and white people were still NOT EQULE in some states. • 150 years later the first Afro-American President was elected.
