  2. The First Mechanical Computer In 1822, Charles Babbage began developing the Difference Engine, this was considered to be the first automatic computing engine. It was capable of computing multiple sets of numbers and making a hard copy of the result. But because of lack of money he was never able to complete a functional version of this machine. In 1837, he designed the first general mechanical computer, the Analytical Engine. It contained an Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU), basic flow control, and integrated memory. But again because of money issues this computer was never built while Charles Babbage's was alive. But n 1910, Henry Babbage, Charles’s son completed a piece of this machine.

  3. First Programmable Computer The Z1 was created by a German by the name of KonradZuse in his parents living room. In 1936 to 1938 he considered it to be the first electro-mechanical binary programmable computer. It was also the first functional computer.

  4. The First Electric Programmable Computer The Colossus was the first electric programmable computer and was developed by a man named Tommy Flowers. He first came up with it in December of 1943. The Colossus was created to help the British code breakers read encrypted German messages.

The First Digital Computer The ABC (short for Atanasoff-Berry Computer)started being developed by a Professor by the name of John Vincent Atanasoff and graduate student Cliff Berry in 1937 and continued to be developed until 1942 at the Iowa State College (now Iowa State University). The ABC was an electrical computer that used vacuum tubes for digital computation including math and Boolean logic and had no CPU. The ENIAC was invented by J. Presper Eckert and John Mauchly at the University of Pennsylvania in 1943 and was not completed until 1946. It was made up of 1,800 square feet and used about 18,000 vacuum tubes, weighing almost 50 tons. Although the ABC computer was the first digital computer, many still considered the ENIAC to be the first digital computer because it was fully functional. ENIACABC Computer

  6. The First Stored Program Computer The EDSAC is an early British computer that is considered to be the first stored program electronic computer. The computer was first used on May 6, 1949 and was the computer that had the first graphical computer game, nicknamed "Baby".

  7. First Commercial Computer KonradZusebegan to work on the Z4 in 1942. It got sold to Eduard Stiefel a mathematician in Zurich on July 12, 1950.

  8. The First Laptop or Portable Computer The IBM 5100 was the first laptop, which came out in September 1975. This computer weighed about 55 pounds and had a five inch display, tape drive, 1.9MHz PALM processor, and 64KB of RAM. The first true laptop is said to be the Osborne I, which came out in April 1981 and was developed by Adam Osborne. The Osborne I weighed 24.5 pounds, had a 5-inch display, 64 KB of memory, two 5 1/4" floppy drives, ran the CP/M 2.2 operating system, and included a modem. IBM 5100 Osborne 1

  9. The First Apple Computer Steve Wozniak designed the first Apple computer that was known as the Apple I computer. This computer was invented in1976.

  10. The First PC Clone The Compaq Portable is said to be the first PC clone and it came out in March 1983 by Compaq. The Compaq Portable was compatible with the IBM computers and it was able to run any software developed for IBM computers.

  11. Today! Today we have touch screen computers, tiny laptops, and a computer that can run 4 monitors at once!

  12. Pros About The Computer! Some pros about the computer are: • Great for education • Great for digital storage space • You can know everything in the world in just seconds • You can play games on it to occupy your time • You can pay your bills online • Shop online • Get information on different topics online • The world is at your finger tips

  13. Cons About the Computer! • Can become addicted to it • People can spend to much time on it and loose their social life • People can hack into them or accounts that are on there • If your hard drive crashes everything is lost
