The Research • When people are faced with complicated or repetitive tasks, experiencing fear increases selective attention (Finucane, 2011).
The Research • Ahigh fear threat, in addition to a potential way to alleviate that threat, is more effective than a solution alone (Tanner, Hunt, & Eppright, 1991).
The Research • High fear appeals, over low fear appeals, positive appeals, and no appeals produce the greatest likelihood of adopting the suggested behavior (Evans, Rozelle, Lasater, Dembroski, & Allen, 1970).
The Research • When dealing with the familiar, an intense, explicit fear appeal is more likely to impact an individual’s decision than other methods(Pelsmacker, Cauberghe, & Dens, 2011).
