  4. The STAR Approach S - describe a specific situation toset the scene [10%] T - explain what you had to do - what was the task? [10%] A – what action did you take? Talk about the skills you used to solve the problem e.g. liaising, organising, persuading etc. [70%] R - what was theresult? Give a positive outcome [10%]

STAR example • Situation: I was events officer for my college student union • Task: I was responsible for organising a Halloween charity event in a local nightclub. • Action: I decided to involve all student union committee members to share the load and have regular meetings for them all to report back to me. I allocated specific roles to each person, set deadlines, progress chased and kept team members informed of progress. • Result: The event raised £500 and 200 students attended, exceeding the number expected by 50.
