Homework Policy • District guidelines: Roughly 45-50 minutes per night, including reading. • Homework assigned throughout the week – classroom website • Posted on Classroom Website: http://mrsfoleysclassroomsite.weebly.com/ • Develop time management skills • No homework on Fridays or holidays UNLESS there is unfinished work or late homework from the week or a long term project. • Homework is for review, to develop organizational skills and foster responsibility! It’s not meant to cause stress! • Send in a note if homework is taking too long or if your child is regularly unable to do it independently.

Reading Workshop ELA Blocks – 90 minutes 5x/week Readers Workshop -Independent Reading – continue to increase stamina -Focus Lessons: Comprehension Strategies, (asking questions, determining importance, summarizing, inferring) -Reader’s Notebooks -Interactive Read Aloud -Focus on exposing students to different genres -Small Book Groups/RTI -Word Study –Word study is a method of explicit instruction in letter- sound relationships and patterns within words. teaches spelling patterns teaches word meanings/parts of words hands-on it’s for everyone – differentiated

Please think of other creative ways to celebrate your child’s birthday – I’ve seen some great ways – happy to help if I can!
