Diction Begins happy and jolly language that is descriptive. *“spring” *“luscious” *“hop-scotch” *“jump-rope” Changes to darker language. *“queer old balloonman” *“goat-footed” *“little lame balloonman”
Imagery With very bright imagery, the reader is able to easily imagine what is happening. “hop-scotch” “jump-rope” “whistles”
Details The details that describe the balloonman are very mysterious. The reader does not know much about the balloonman until the end when he is described as “goat-footed” and “queer”.
Language *Childish words like “eddieandbill” and “bettyanddisbel”. *Repitition of the line “whistles far and wee”.
Sentence Structure *No rhyme scheme. *Breaks between the words make it seem like children’s thoughts.
