Working in the UK • For doctors in the EEA, there are no visa or immigration restrictions (other than for Croatian Nationals). • To be able to work, EEA doctors will need to be able to evidence a level of training or certification equivalent to UK medical qualifications and be registered with the UK’s General Medical Council. • You must also be apply to demonstrate an acceptable standard of English. Initial Costs • Accommodation when you arrive: When leasing a flat or room in a flat-share, the bond can be up to 6 weeks’ rent and on top of that you will probably have to pay up to a month’s rent in advance. • Transport: Consider weekly/monthly bus, train, tube travel passes • Mobile phone: If you’ve brought your mobile phone from home you still may need to buy a SIM card or pay to have your phone ‘unlocked’ from your previous carrier • Internet access: Internet cafes charge from £1 an hour, or many libraries, coffee shops and pubs also have free wifi. @NatPsychRecruit @GPNRO

National Insurance Number • Your UK National Insurance number is a unique personal number allocated to you that is used to identify you to HM Revenue & Customs and the Department of Work and Pensions. • It ensures the Government correctly records any contributions you are entitled to.
