  2. 1. Define • (a) Philosophy- is a system of beliefs and values that one person believes in and preaches • (b) Civil Service – to carry out the work of the government

  3. 2. Identify • (a ) Confucius- was one of China’s early thinkers. The Chinese regarded him as a GREAT TEACHER and called him KONG FU ZI.

  4. 3. What are some basic ideas of Confucianism?

  5. Answer • The goal is order in society, people can be taught to behave properly to one another and peace will return. People should know their place in the family and society. Also the importance of family, moral values and respect for one’s elders. Those are just a few ideas of Confucianism.

  6. 4. How did Confucius’ teachings change the way civil servants were chosen in Ancient China

  7. Answer • People who would hold government positions were normally sons of important people. After Confucius any male could hold a position based on MERIT. They would be rewarded for doing a good job. To get a job as a civil servant first you would need to pass an exam and to advance you would need to pass more exams and these exams were based on Confucius teachings
