Palm Beach Challenge/National Umpire Development Clinic 2014 How do you stack up against post-season umpires? The Division II National Umpire Development Clinic is designed for advanced high school and collegiate level umpires seeking advanced instruction and exposure to the Division II evaluation process. This is a training clinic and is not a Division II post-season tryout camp. NUDC will prepare you to become a more attractive candidate to those who make post-season selections. Learn how to put your best foot forward. Curriculum has been developed and will be presented by Tom Hiler, the Director of Umpiring. He will be on-site throughout and will also observe and evaluate. Tom’s classroom and field sessions have been highly praised by all who have attended in the past. You will receive intense instruction in three-man field mechanics and plate mechanics. You will be evaluated just as Division II regional umpires are evaluated by Division II Regional Advisors- the men who evaluate Division II post-season umpires. Prepare yourself for post-season when you get it. The instructional staff includes several Division II Regional Advisors, the Division II National Umpire Coordinator and Dr. Jim Paronto; Secretary-Rules Editor. Other clinicians have Division I post-season experience including appointments to the Division I College World Series. Tom Hiler and Jim Paronto are also Division I Umpire Coordinators. The four-day clinic features videotaped plate and field instruction. All umpires will be evaluated according to the standards of performance required at the Division II level by Regional Advisors who function as Evaluator/Observers for the Division II Baseball Umpire Improvement Program.

TAKE THE CHALLENGE ! • Here’s what they said about last year’s clinic- - Eric Nakagawa This Program was a fantastic opportunity to improve as an umpire. Not only working with, and learning from, my peers, but also the excellent level of instruction and detailed game evaluations provided by the staff. • Work on new mechanics • Sharpen up your on-field presentation • Receive complete and thorough evaluations • Meet motivated umpires from around the nation • Gain on-field confidence through top-flight training WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE • Clinic T-Shirt • Certificate of Completion • Group Picture • Letter of commendation to your Division II Conference Coordinator YOUR RESONSIBILITY • Transportation to Palm Beach • Hotel Accommodation • Tuition $350.00 ($175.00 non-refundable) • Umpire Uniform and Equipment -Mark Wahl Tom Hiler. He's the only reason I came to the clinic. I enjoy seeing/hearing him every year in the regional clinics so I knew I'd love learning from in at this clinic. Rick Castorena- He was great. Enjoyed working a game with him and the excellent feedback he provided. -DJ Breighner Dave Alstadt-The time he spent on the evaluation was amazing. Plus he took the time to type it up and mail it out. His feedback was awesome. Dan Weikle- I think the other huge plus was his approach to the practical aspect of umpiring. It's one thing to follow a book and mechanics, but he put a spin on the teachings that made it easy to bring to the real world. -Brandon McWhorter Dave Alstadt- Very observant in his critiques. Couldn't get anything by him! He was very pleasant and professional. Also, it was very nice of him to type up all his notes from my plate job and email them to me Dan Weikle- His plate work sessions were awesome, and he gave me probably the most immediately helpful tip of the weekend. Best thing was getting to hear what the NCAA "brass" wants to see from their umpires. It was basically a blueprint on how to succeed.
