  3. DTH services were introduced in India 3 years ago and it has been successful in bringing Digital entertainment to Indian home. Recently there are about 2-3 millions DTH homes and it is growing at a fast rate. If India has to catch up with the world and become a super power, DTH can play a major role. In this presentation we will examine the introduction of new technology and its impact on DTH services. INTRODUCTION

  4. ABOUT DIRECT TO HOME (DTH) • Our Prime Minister Manmohan Singh launched India’s First DTH service DD Direct Plus on Dec 16 2004. • It bypasses the Cable Network & SMATV system. It is direct from satellite to consumer’s home. • DTH can provide entertainment, news games & lots more to viewer.

  5. DTH SERVICE IN INDIA • It provides Doordarshan Channels, Private Channel & Radio Channel. Doordarshan Channels:- DD-National, DD-News, DD-India, DD-Bharti, DD-Gujarati, DD-Gyandarshan etc.

  6. Private Channels:- Sun TV, Star Utsav, MH1, Jain TV, Akash Bangla, BBC World, ETC Punjabi, Smile TV, Zee Music, Aaj Tak Radio Channels:- AIR Gujarati , AIR Kannada, AIR Bangla, FM Rainbow & FM Gold

  7. ADVANTAGES • Superior picture quality, just like watching a DVD. • Capacity up to accodomodate more than 400 channel. • Un-interrupted Viewing. • Stereophonic Sound

DISADVANTAGES • Main disadvantage of DTH is if DTH Channel is broadcast from more than one distance satellite then separate dish antennas will be needed. • The cost involved with DTH will make it inaccessible to Indian audience. • The DTH represent something of an overkill of localize channel.

FUTURE OF DTH IN INDIA • Opportunities for DTH in India look great. • There would be around 2.5 million DTH subscriber in India. • Since India’s population crossed one billion mark it is no surprise that satellite operator and programmer’s eyes are on the world market for DTH satellite TV service.
