6 reasons how technology is integrated into Teaching Technology is everywhere--entwined in almost every part of our culture. It affects how we live, work, play, and most importantly learn. Technology is becoming an increasing requirement across every industry today it only makes sense that our schools are also effectively deploying mobile technology in the classroom. However, for many schools, implementing the latest technology is a difficult strategy to navigate. Below we look at reasons why students need technology in the classroom environment and how it can impact engagement. 1.Helps connect students to the real world: A geology professor takes her students on a virtual tour of Grand Canyon National Park. A history teacher walks his students through the corridors and history of the White House. Technology allows educators to remove the physical barriers of the classroom, offering students a way to connect curriculum with the real world. 2.Using Social Media as a Teaching Tool If you have grown students, chances are they are on social media. This is good, because you can leverage one of their favorite ways to spend time for learning. For instance, you can pull a video from YouTube and use it for Q&A sessions. Or you can use travel images of social media influencers as a discussion piece in class. 3.Real-Time Communication Some areas of study like language learning and special education spend more time on auditory listening skills due to the nature of study. This provides students an opportunity to hear native speakers have a conversation and helps students learn the best way possible--experiencing real life. 4.Makes it easy for Teachers: Teachers have a variety of tasks outside of teaching including planning lessons, attendance and grading, meeting with parents, and some administrative work. The use of technology in education can also help make learning fun through gamification, game-based learning or quest- based learning. Educators in schools and colleges who have practiced game-based learning have been mesmerized to see the results. 5.Instant Access to Knowledge: The Internet gives students instant access to answers beyond what’s in their textbooks. In fact, today’s kids are already familiar with “Googling-it” to find answers to questions. The gift of the internet to the classroom gives teachers the chance to give their students a holistic view of any given subject while still giving students the guidance to find the right source. In-classroom internet research gives teachers the opportunity to teach
their students how to assess the quality of the information they find online while removing the one-sided restrictions of a textbook. 6.The Teaching Industry is ready for Emerging Technology: Teachers are the foot soldiers of education, and they’re ready to implement technology in the classroom through was many ways as possible. Unlike in previous decades, modern teachers recognize the critical importance technology plays in teaching tomorrow’s leaders. There are certainly more ways than one to integrate technology into the classroom. The above five ways are only the tip of the iceberg. The goal is to give students the digital tools they need to grow and be successful throughout their education. How do you integrate tech into your classroom?
