  1. Hamish’s War Diary By Tom

  2. Page 1 8.25.1917.. Dear Diary,Today’s been a tough day...............The truck rumbled along the rough terrain. I was in the back with a dozen army recruits. Some were breaking under pressure. I could hear bombs going off piercing my ears. I knew my day was up at the sound of brakes screeching. The sheet lifted. All twelve of us sped out. Guns rattled my ears as did the sound of people screaming. It felt like slow-motion. I wish I had known what it was like when I signed up for the S.A.S. I fired my gun into any bomb-hole knowing there could be a German hunting and out to kill someone like me... As I said I knew my day was up as I hopped off that truck. And it was happening. The gunshot was the only one I could hear it was a sniper with such force it struck my leg the pain was indescribable. It was worse than being sat on by an elephant! Well I thought I was helpless. I was practically a sitting duck for the Germans. Choose 1: You stop and wait. Choose 2: You yell for help.Choose 3: You stay and fight sitting down.

  3. Page 2 “Damn you Hitler!” I thought. Blood was flowing rapidly out of my leg that was now nearly red but I knew under it all.....  But suddenly the switch went on! “R.E.D.” I thought. My heart thumped surprisingly with excitement. I Rested my leg on my Kit Bag, which gave it Elevation. I tore off a bit of my shirt that hadn’t already had blood on it and tied it around my wound. That gave it some Direct Pressure. I felt much better. Suddenly the guns and the bombshell's stopped and cheering sounded. A white flag got hauled up a steel post at the end of the horizon. We had won! The End. Go to the start to try to get a different ending.

  4. Page 9 I thought that the best way to survive is to yell out for help. I start to scream out for help. The bombshells were too loud. I waited for a pause of noise ... and screamed my head off. Whoops! Bad idea! I attracted a couple of Germans! I tried to grab my gun but it was too far away. I got my arm shot! Luckily a mate of mine, Mack, heard my torture and came to my aid, blowing the Germans off their feet. Thanks to him I am still alive today. But at the moment I am stuck in hospital getting surgery on my arm. With the 1st world war still going on around me and I have choices to make.Choose 4:You retire from the army. Choose 5:You still want to go back to war.

  5. Page 3 I sat on the ground waiting for Germans. My gun slung in my hand, and I was ignoring the pain in my left leg. It was now quiet, with a bomb going off once in awhile. A head popped over the horizon. BLANG! I shimmied over to see if he had water because mine had spilled out when I got shot. But when I got over I realised I had shot my best friend Mack! My heart got blown away. Tear rolled down my cheek. I sat by him looking down at his lifeless face. I toughened up and was now determined to get his body back to N.Z. I was doing the same thing now as I was half an hour ago. Except guarding a DEAD body. I am writing right now which is weird because I am supposed to....... Huh! thought I saw someth Auf Wiedersehen

  6. Page 25 I don’t want to go back after the experience I had a month ago. I don’t have a get out of jail free card anymore. I won’t probably even be able to hold a pen now! But my arm will be fine in another year. Ugh.... a year of my life that I’ve already nearly wasted. So I’m not going back and decided to stay at home in Hamilton. I married Kathleen Powers and have 2 kids, Cam and Mack. Life is ripe and there is no turning back.... The End. Go to the start to try to get a different ending.

  7. Page 18 I am still dying to get out and fight for war. I am back in that dreaded jeep again in a month’s time. My arm is a-okay.  The jeep stopped early as yelling and chaos was coming from the front. But seconds later we were back on track. We turned and weaved through the town of Cabre. Non- stop. “Where are we going?” I asked “Zear going do ‘ell.” replied the mysterious driver. I was worried and jumped out the back of the jeep. Several of my comrades followed me. There was even more chaos than before. I couldn’t  hear anything other than gunshots. I couldn’t do anything. Blam!
