Internet Surfing • Internet Surfing as it is popularly known means to go from one page to another on the Internet, browsing for topics of interest. • With the Net, we can do many things, such as shopping for clothes, making friends, and getting information.
Open a browser Web Browser List • Internet explorer (Microsoft) • Google chrome (Google) • Opera • Mozilla Firefox Click Here to Open browser
Select a search engine • Ask • Google • Yahoo • MSN • Bing Click Here and Type At the top of any page on your computer, type the phrase www.google.com in place of search engine into the Search Bar to attain access to several different internet sites that specifically aid in searching. Common search engines:
Press the Enter key on the keyboard of your computer Press the Enter Key
Example • Choose a few of the most specific or relevant keywords or phrases to describe your topic. Utilize synonyms. Type your choice of words into the Search Bar offered by your chosen search engine.

Common Terms Associated With the Internet • Home Page—The opening Web page on an Internet site. • HyperText Markup Language (HTML)—The programming language used to create Web pages. • Hyperlink—A highlighted or underlined word or graphic on a Web page that leads to another Web page. • Internet Account—What allows the user to get online. Typically includes a login, password, and email address. • Internet Service Provider (ISP)—An organization that provides access to the Internet. Some of the better-known ISPs include AOL, MSN, and Yahoo.
Common Terms Associated With the Internet • Modem—A device that connects the computer to the Internet via phone or cable lines. • Network—A group of connected computers in either a LAN, or Local Area Network, or a WAN, or Wide Area Network. • Search Engine—A Web site that searches the Internet for specific information. This would include engines like Yahoo, Google,MSN. • Server—A computer that stores information that can be accessed via the Internet.

How Search Engine Work?? Most search engines and databases use Boolean Operators to create search statements, e.g.(domestic or family)
Spelling • Spelling Helps. • If you know what you are looking for, spell it properly and the computer will not ask what you are looking for. Wrong Spelling Correct Spelling
Boolean Operators • AND requires both terms to appear in the items that are retrieved. • OR requires either term to appear in the items that are retrieved. • NOT excludes a term.
