An Exhaustively Researched Report By Azar Tzegai: Steroid Abuse in Athletics
What are Steroids? • Anabolic steroids are a synthetic version of the hormone testosterone. • Testosterone promotes muscle growth and development in the body. • When taking steroids, the body will have increased muscle mass and endurance, and less body fat. • Using steroids will effectively make you a better athlete.
The Side Effects • Although steroids might seemingly make you bigger and better, there are side effects. • You may get liver damage, increased blood pressure, stunted growth, breast development in males, excessive hair growth or even hair loss, and “Roid Rage”, increased aggression, even to an extremely violent extent. • There may also be issues in the kidneys, prostate enlargement, sterility, and cancer. • In women, steroid usage may give them more masculine traits, such as a deepened voice and facial hair, even male patterned baldness. • In men, it may cause the penis to shrink.
