  2. The Land • Three parts • Grand Prairie • Cross Timber • Rolling Plains • Extends North to Midwest and up to Canada • Flat, rolling plains • Rolling plains better for ranching than farming • Rich oil fields in this area • Less humidity, summers are hotter and winters are colder

  3. Produce • Raise livestock- beef cattle, dairy cattle, sheep, goats, hogs, chickens, and turkeys • Farmers- Cotton, corn, other grains, wheat, peanuts, peaches, pecans and apples • Oak trees & Pecans • Natural resources- limestone, sand, gravel, oil, gas, clay, stone

  4. Major Cities • Fort Worth- • Then stop for long cattle drives, “Cowtown” • Now home to museums, universities, and stockyards • Abilene- • Then built near the new railroad • Now has rich oil and gas fields; three universities

  5. Landmarks • Interesting shaped mountains • Cross Timbers natural landmark
