Geographic Location • A narrow elongated beach situated parallel to the shoreline. • Padre Island • Louisiana Barrier Islands (Contains the Barrier Beach biome) • Georgia Barrier Island (Contains the Barrier Beach biome) • Even Long Island New York is considered a Barrier Island (Contains the Barrier Beach biome)

  3. Food Chain • Producer: phytoplankton • Primary Consumer: White Sand Macoma • Secondary Consumer: Moon snail • Tertiary Consumer: Blue Crab

  4. Type of Water and Habitat • This beaches are on islands that block the oceans waves and riptides. So the water type is Salt Water. • Habitat: • Does not support the growth of plants for many insects and crustaceans so they must burrow in the sand. • Its is Sand and smooth and not rocky

  5. How the biome is used • We build buildings along the Barrier Beach • Protects us from many powerful storm surges in the open water

  6. Threats to the ecosystem • Deteriorating interior marshes and open water areas • Erosion of the beach to where it could no longer exist • Natural disasters such as Hurricanes/typhoons

  7. Subbiomes of the barrier beach • There are Five different parts to the Barrier beach Biome • Open Water • Beach • Dunes • Mudflat • Salt marsh
