  3. Scriptural Baptism Water baptism is a subject about which there is no small amount of confusion and conflicting views. It is also a subject that is characterized by extremes. Some saying it is of no real importance; others saying that it within itself saves.

  4. Scriptural Baptism Is water baptism taught in the scriptures? Baptisma= Noun. Found about 22 times in Greek N.T. Baptizo= verb.. Found about 80 times in Greek N.T.

  13. What age should a person be who is baptized? • 1. Old enough to know right from wrong. • Isa. 59:1-2 • 2. Old enough to understand the teaching of God on what to do to be cleansed of • Sin. “Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? • Acts 9:6 • 3. Old enough to realize that if he or she • dies not being baptized for the remission of sins, , they will be lost because they are • Sinners. Baptism is the only way to get into • Christ Gal. 3:27 and into the church of Christ. I Cor. 12:13

  14. Question? Who is to do the baptizing? • I Cor. 1:12 “Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. • 13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were ye baptized in the name of Paul? • 14. I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius; • 15.Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name.

  18. Baptism is the means of our getting into Christ. Gal 3:27 “For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. I Cor. 12:13 “For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. Rom. 6:3 “Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

  19. Our sins are remitted when we are baptized. Lk. 24:47 “And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.” Acts 22:16 “And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.” Acts 2:38 “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”

  20. Question? Why is it so important to be baptized for the right reason? • 1. Not because your mother or father • Want you to…I’m sure they do…but that • Is not the reason to be baptized. • 2. Not because your preacher is on you • all the time about being baptized and you • want to get them to leave you alone. • 3. Not because others your age are being baptized. No SET age found in the Bible!

  21. 4. To older people, not because your husband or wife , or children, etc..want you to be baptized. I’m sure they are • Praying for you…but that is an individual • Decision. • “What doth hinder me from being baptized? Acts 8:36

  22. Before you are baptized scripturally, you must • 1. Hear the word of God. Rom. 10:17 • This teaches you what God says about the matter. • 2. You must believe in Jesus. John 8:24 • He is the way, the only way..He is the • Messiah. Acts 8:37 ‘if thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”

  23. 3. You must repent. Lk. 13:3 Repent or • Perish. Acts 17:30,31 • 4. You must confess with your mouth • That Jesus is the Christ. Matt. 10:32,33 • 5. Then, you are ready to be immersed, • Baptized into Christ for the remission of • Your sins. Gal. 3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ, have • Put on Christ.

  24. Question? When will you be baptized? • 1. Acts 2:41 Then they that gladly received his word…were baptized… • 2. He knew he was lost and he wanted to be saved! It was urgent.

  28. Scriptural Baptism Why some baptize today. Two common reasons: 1. “Outward sign of inward grace” 2. “To Join a den. church”

Jesus’ baptism. 13: “Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. 14: But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? 15: And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. 16: And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 17: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Matt. 3).

And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. 38: And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. 39: And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing” (Acts 8).

  31. My Final Question today to you is this? • Have you been baptized? • Have you been scripturally baptized? • Be sure you have no questions about • Your personal baptism. That is between • You and God!
