Course Objectives • To foster a love for Spanish culture and language • Prepare students for Spanish II, either regular or honors • Finish 4 units (each unit has 2 chapters so in reality, 8+1 chapters) H:\World Languages\Avancemos\SPANISH 1 PACING GUIDE Avancemos 2013-2014 without notes.doc • Have fun!!!!
Grading • 20% Homework (not too much in the beginning, but should expect something every weeknight (no weekends) H:\World Languages\Spanish stamp and grade sheet.doc • 25% tests/projects (usually 1 per mp) • 35% quizzes (given each Friday) • 20% class participation & preparation • www.Dictionary.com Sign up for the Spanish word of the day. I accept Monday-Thursday’s words for extra credit.

Students will be able to… • Introduce themselves and greet people. • Talk about what they like to do outside of school (sports, activities) • Talk about their family. • Talk about their school day and what they need to do in order to be successful. • Order food in a restaurant.
Fun opportunities! • 2 “fiestas” this year, where kids prepare a SPANISH recipe. 10 pt. coupon! • Salsa Fridays ~ salsa and chips every other Friday as long as class behavior allows. Sign up sheets
