Nouns A noun is a person, place, or thing. Nouns can be used in sentences as the subject, direct object, predicate nominative, object of a preposition, as well as a possessive or modifier of another noun.
Pronouns These take the place of nouns. They can be personal, indefinite, relative/interrogative, and demonstrative.
Adjectives They are “the master of detail.” Adjectivescan describe or limit their subjects. They also will answer the questions: “What kind? Which one? How many? How much?”
Adverbs Whereas adjectives must modify a noun, adverbs modify a verb, adjective, or another adverb. They can introduce sentences and connect clauses.
Prepositions Aboard About Above According to Across After Against Ahead of Along Among Around As far as Because of Before Behind Beside Besides Between Beyond Contrary to Despite Down During Inside Into Like Near Next to Out of Over Past Per Since Through Throughout Toward Under Until Within Without
These are used for “hooking up words and phrases and clauses.” They are coordinating, subordinating, or correlative. Conjunctions • Conjunction Junction
¡Interjections! Hooray! Interjections are “the most manic”! They stand alone and often have an exclamation mark! Interjections!
