Centers • Centers are important because • Teaches students to be independent. • Allow students to make decisions on their own • Allow the students to practice their fine motor skills
Centers Continued Kindergarten classrooms usually contain some of the following learning centers:
Book Centers • Book centers usually include different types of books. • Different Themes • Hard and Paperback books • Diversity • Most of the time, in the center is also confortable furniture for the student to be able to relax and have personal time.
Carpet Time • Carpet time is a time for students to get away from the desks for some time, but still learn. • During carpet time some activities that can be done are: • Go over the letter/number of the week • Calendar • Read a story • Nursery rhymes
Word Wall • A word wall is a list of sight words that are used throughout Kindergarten reading. • Help the prepare the students for first grade • The words can be added to the wall according to the pace of the teacher
Word Wall Examples • Word walls can be done different ways • They can be done using a magnetic whiteboard • They can even be posted on the wall with sticky tack
Behavior Charts • Sometimes used in classrooms • Monitor their own behavior • Students need a visual to see how they are doing • Ex: Three color cards: Green, Yellow, Red
Color Behavior Charts • Handy because students know at yellow they have an opportunity to change their behavior • Red they will have punishment
Classroom Organization • Important part on both the students and teacher. • Some things to help would be: • Cubbies for students • Bookshelves • Community Supply Bins • Organizes supplies the students share daily • Labels on everything in classroom • Label with pictures/words so students can help keep things organized
Cubby Space • Cubbies are individual places for the students to be able to place their items such as: • Backpacks • Lunch box • Extra clothes • Show and tell items
