Masai background • The Masai are one of the most well known of Kenya’s 42 tribes • The general health of the community is poor • Women are encouraged to, and typically do, give birth each year • The Masai continue to rely on the traditional staples: milk, blood, and meat for their nutrition.
Ed colina • Ed colina has been involved in education for 26 years • Traveling to Africa, Ed volunteered with a renowned organization and NGO Nyumbani • Nyumbani has constructed a Kamba village for 1000 children and 250 grandparents • In February of 2008,n Ed began his solo projects to aid poor Masai women and children living in Athi River, Kenya
Why we should build a school • The nearest school is 8 kilometer walk away • Many Masai children do not go to school until the age 10 or 11, if at all. • Few children reach the 8th grade • Girls are farther disadvantage • The kids who reach 8th grade the must attend sub-standard schools with poor teaching and low quality facilities.
