What is the diction of the poem? • The narrator speaks in the Scottish vernacular of his time. • The grammar usage in this poem gives a homey, simple feeling. • Many of the words used in the poem have abstract connotations. • The etymology like the foreign vernacular adds to the over all mood of the poem.
