Area and Division Director Training

  1. Area and Division Director Training Effective Club Officers Training

  2. Objectives • Provides the knowledge and tools. • Trained club officers can result in • more satisfied members, • more exciting club meetings, • more new members, • more Distinguished Clubs and • more Distinguished Districts. • http://www.toastmasters.org/217_training

WHEN TO TRAIN • COT 1: June 1 and August 31, when officers begin their terms. • allows new leaders to learn their roles and responsibilities and meet district leaders • COT 2: December 1 and February 28 (or 29) • gives club leaders the opportunity to discuss problems and get advice from district leaders • Clubs that have at least four officers attend training during each of COT receive credit toward Distinguished Club Program goal

WHO CAN ATTEND TRAINING? • Current and incoming club officers should be invited and encouraged to attend. • Toastmasters members not holding club office but interested in learning about or improving their Toastmasters leadership and communication skills can attend. • Encourage maximum attendance and participation at these sessions

  5. Selecting Your Team • Chair • Treasurer • Logistic • Promotion & Markeing • Registration – Use the same format as the online submission.

  6. Selecting Your Team Trainers: • Experienced. • Knowledgeable. Trainers who have served as past club president who led the club to President’s Distinguished Club. • Entertaining. • Committed to using the Toastmasters International training materials. • If curriculum will include additional sessions, work with the trainers to develop those content areas. • Always retain control over the content of every training session.

PLANNING THE CURRICULUM • www.toastmasters.org/COTmaterial • Trainers must use these training programs. • Quality. • The material is presented clearly, concisely and logically. • Consistency. • Using the modules assures that all officers receive the information they need, no matter who conducts the training.

PLANNING THE 1ST COT • Session 1: Creating a Quality Club • importance of the member experience, the Toastmasters brand, Moments of Truth and the Distinguished Club Program. • Session 2 : Club Officer Role Breakouts • All ADs and Division Advisors for each Officer role. • Session 3: Leading the Club to Success • teaches club officers motivation, delegation, coaching and SMART goal setting, as well as guiding them through the creation of the Club Success Plan. • Session 4: Area Breakouts • Closing (Please do closing after the Area Breakouts)

Area Breakouts – 1ST COT • AD Goals - Area Success Plan / Distinguished Area Program • AD / Clubs Calendar • Area Council Meetings – at least 2. • Club Visit – AD Visit Report, at least 2 visits a term • Area Speech Contest Planning • Club Success Plan • Challenges/Problems within the Club • Toastmasters Awards • Successor for new term

  10. PLANNING THE 2ND COT Opportunity to discuss any problems, getting advice from district leaders. Tailor your training to meet their needs. • Moments of Truth, as a training session, giving officers the chance to analyze their own clubs and discuss how they can improve. • Distinguished Club Program - Gap Analysis, review and discuss the reports • Finding New Members for Your Club/ Closing the Sale • Resolving Conflict (optional) • Area Breakouts

Area Breakouts – 2ND COT • AD Goals - Distinguished Area Program • AD / Clubs Calendar (Club Visits) • Club and Area Speech Contest Planning • Club Success Plan • Club Membership Dues Collection • Challenges/Problems within the Club • Successor for new term • Area New Alignment • Achievement Recognition

  12. FIVE TIPS FOR SUCCESS • Focus on helping Members / Clubs • Reinforce the Distinguished Club Program • Appoint a training coordinator • - e.g. Assistant Division Program Quality. • Assign training teams • Use training to identify future leaders
