  3. Context • ISO certification in Cartography in 1998 • Diagram of the overall process in 2000 • Then ISO certification was extended to the rest of Publishing Services (Digital Design and Editorial) in 2002 PPI system Reproduces the overall process

  4. Why such a system? AVOID DUPLICATION • To avoid duplication of efforts (reuse information) • All forms used throughout the process are partially prefilled with tombstone information once the permission-to-publish has been initiated. • Map production will be linked to PPI for automatic insertion of title, authorship, scale, etc. • At the end of the process, some of GSC’s bibliographic database fields (GEOSCAN) come from PPI. • etc.

  5. Why such a system? VOLUME • Number of publications going through our services in one year • 20-30 A-Series Maps • 150-200 Open Files (of which about 60-80 are maps) • 20-30 Current Research articles • 10-20 reports (Bulletins and MRs) • 10-20 reprints in all series ------------------------------------ TOTAL = 270-370 PUBLICATIONS/YEAR (OF WHICH 80-110 ARE MAPS)
