  1. Yeah. It sounds a lot more impressive than it really is… ELECTRONEGATIVITY Mken, El Jefe, Yanginator, and Sid

  2. Say, Whaaaaaat? • Electronegativity is a measure of the ability of an atom in a molecule to attract electrons to itself • So basically, how likely it is to steal an electron, or at least pull it towards itself. F Na

  3. Units? No. Well, kind of…

  4. I’m the champion of Vitamin C. Suck it. Man. Electronegativity sure is dreamy. I love Lucy. Really. Isn’t this beret just absolutely fetching?

  5. DANCE BREAK! JOIN IN!!! For emergencies: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5-xd0M6tRQ

  6. YIPPEEEEEEEE!!!! The electronegativity between you and me is more than 4.0.

  7. Well that was weird. What Kind of Trends Happen? • As elements increase in atomic number down a column, electronegativity decreases. • As elements increase in atomic number across a row, electronegativity increases.

  8. why. WHY????????????? • Electronegativity increases across the row because proton number increases and atomic radius decreases. • Electronegativity decreases down a column because of shielding and increased atomic radius.

  9. S EX

  10. No, really. • Typically, the whole d-block have higher electronegativity than the period above it because of d-block contraction. • Elements in the d-block have a smaller atomic radius than would be expected. Therefore, electronegativity increases down the columns. • Some noble gases are exceptions because they can be electronegative!

  11. Who cares? • Not us, but you should! Because the difference in electronegativity between 2 elements helps to determine if they will bond ionically, nonpolar covalently, or polar covalently.

  12. WAIT! Electronegativty doesn’t actually exist… Cheers!
