THROUGH MY EYES PAVEL DVOŘÁK student from grade three England 2006 / trip
A week autumn tour to England was organized by the Grant Language School. We spent three days in London and three days in Cotswolds. The coach was mostly filled up by adults. Everyone had to take care of himself and his refreshment (breakfast, lunch, dinner). It was mostly assured in restaurants or fast food restaurants. The trip for one cost about 14, 000 Czech crowns.
Tour of London: London is a wonderful city with rich history and landmarks that are worth seeing. And yet three days in this city full of smog and traffic jams are just enough. Then you are glad to leave for somewhere like countryside where there are not so many people. When you are leaving London, it is worth going on side roads to enjoy the beautiful British countryside. For example Burford – a typical English village between Oxford and Cheltenham.
The London Czech Mission: We stayed in the special dormitory of the Czech mission. It was founded by Mr. Lang from Moravia before the Second World War and it was intended for the Czechand Slovak refugees. Later (with the entry to the European Union) he began helping Czech fans who were leaving for England to work. Now the mission serves as a modest (it is supported just by donations) housing for the Czechs and Slovaks who decided to move to England and work there.
Cotswolds: In Cotswolds, we slept in the Slim Bridge - fully equipped hostel with the possibility of cooking your own meals. The hostel was directly in the reservation. Cotswolds is an area west from London. In the southern part of this area there is the city of Bath. This city was founded by the Romans who occupied the south of England. It is known that already pagans who were there were using the healing hot springs in the city of Bath. The Romans built a large spa and a beautifulcathedral there. Cotswolds is a protected sanctuary of birds and other species. You can see thatched roofseverywhere.
The most interesting thing about the whole trip was the accommodation in the Czech mission. And the less the trips were planned the more entertaining they were. Sometimes we could also use our English. I returned home full of impressions and I would like to recommend such a trip to all of you.
